School's OUT for SUMMER
Friday was the last day of school, which meant the last day of First Grade for Ethan. He had a great year. Ethan's favorite memories of first grade include: "making candy houses, the Wildcat Run, Field Day, read-a-thon, Halloween costume parade, spelling pretests because you get suckers if you get 100%, the superintendent reading a book to us every month, and writing in our jounals."

Race Weekend
Our weekend started Friday morning with the Woodruff Elementary Wildcat Run. Each grade level races 1 mile through the neighborhood around the school. Ethan went into the race saying he wanted to get 3rd place (not sure why it wasn't first). Well it turned out. . . he got 3rd place!
Starting Line

Here he is with all of the top 3 winners from each grade level.

He was so excited about winning and wore his medal all day. He also told everyone in the dentist's office at his appointment that afternoon. Ethan has every right, he was 3rd out of more than 140 first graders. I got to run with him and watched him in 5th place for most of the mile and then with determination he passed a couple of kids and made his goal. Way to go Ethan!! I love that you are competitive and driven to do your best. We are so proud of you.

The next day was the Ogden Marathon. Kelly ran the half (1:55:29) and I ran the full (3:45:42). No 3rd place finishes, but we both made our goals and had personal best times.

a.k.a Disneyland

We had a wonderful time visiting Disneyland. Here are some of our favorite parts of the trip:
Ethan:

This was Ethan's second trip only this time being older I think he'll remember it better.
Although he would only go on it once, he claims that Space Mountain was his favorite ride. He also loved the Ferris Wheel at California Adventure

. . . and Autotopia driving the cars
Ethan rode all of the bigger roller coasters and was pretty scared on all of them. However I did get him to ride the Matterhorn with me a second time.
Ellie:

From the Shuttle taking us to the air terminal to the final shuttle back to our car, Ellie had a blast. At the end of our first day we asked Ellie what her favorite part of Disneyland was. Her response "The bus ride!"
The great thing about 2 year olds is their reaction to EVERYTHING. It's amazing how kids make the simplest things so exciting.
Loving the plane ride.

Mickey's chair in Mickey's House

Waiting for the shuttle

Riding the Carousel. After the trip Ellie said her favorite rides were "riding the horse and the flying elephant".

Flying Dumbo

Mom & Dad:
Our favorite part was watching our kids' smiles, excitement, discoveries, and happiness. We loved that we could ALL go on most of the rides together.

We had many discoveries that must have been missed our last visit. Some other fun memories included watching the World of Color water show, Fireworks (even though Ellie was scared and had to go into one of the shops), some small shows througout the parks, "It's Tough to be a Bug" movie and yummy, sugary food. There still remains many attractions and shows we hope to see in a future visit.
Seeing Tow Mater and Lightning McQueen made us excited for the Cars 2 Movie as well as the new Cars attraction due to open in 2012.

Bustin' a Move & Chasin' boys
Ellie had a blast at Scott and Chrissy's wedding. In between the wedding ceremony and reception all of the kids took over the dance floor. Ethan was too shy to get out there, but Ellie had no problem shakin' her booty.

So during the reception Ellie still had the dancing bug. She also found her first "crush"? She kept following Bryce's youngest boy Carson all over the dance floor and telling me "I want to dance with that kid!" After trying to talk poor Carson into dancing with our little girl Kelly was successful with the power of a dollar to coerce him into accepting. We can't help but wonder if this is a glimpse of what's to come.

Later that evening Ellie found herself another Stettler boy to dance with. This time it didn't take any bribing. (actually we're not sure how it came about).

Ellie also had a few dances with her favorite guy of all.

One Big Happy Family!
Spring Soccer
Despite having several practices and games cancelled due to weather, Ethan has had a fun season playing soccer. It's great to have him in the older division where they are learning all of the positions, including how to work as a team to make goals. Ethan even got a try at playing goalie and did a fabulous job.
