What do you do when Dad's favorite band is touring, but doesn't come to town?
Take a . . . . . . . ROAD TRIP!
One of Kelly's all time favorite bands was performing in Phoenix so we thought, why not make take to visit family and go see Depeche at the same time.
To save on gas we decided to leave our gas guzzler at home and rent a smaller vehicle. One thing led to another and when the time came the only thing the company had was a mini-van. Well we didn't save as much, but the kids were absolutely thrilled with what we ended up with and it made for a comfortable ride.
We broke the trip down into 2 days making time to check out the Hoover Dam.
Ethan thought it was cool that he could be in an entirely different state than his sister.
The kids were so excited to spend a few days with their cousins and our visit worked out perfectly with their fall break. Bailey took us all to a local favorite: The Burrito Shack - - - - the name says it all: it was seriously a humble little tin shack. It was cute (mom's words) and fun and the chicken burrito was delish!
Ethan and Sammie could be found "creating" and "surviving" in the world of MineCraft. I had to laugh and wonder how old they would be before they outgrow this kind of relationship.
We LOVED soaking up the Arizona sun. During fall break the local pools in Gilbert open up, so we cooled off in the beautiful 94 degree weather.
The night before driving home we, the parents, left Bailey in charge and headed the concert. It's amazing to me when thinking about the age of these guys and what an awesome show they can put on!
Before our trip Ellie was so excited about "going to the desert because there are cactuses there". She really wanted to see a "big" cactus. When we got into Arizona and began seeing cacti all we heard in the care was "there's a cactus, there's a cactus. . . . . cactus". On our way out daddy remembered the perfect place to stop and get a picture with a big cactus, so we stopped there.
We all had a fantastic time visiting with the Harpers and the kids adore their cousins. We are always wishing we lived closer. It was a quick trip and everyone was so sad when we had to leave. The trip home was made in one day . . . . 13+ HOURS and I have to say. . . . the kids did AWESOME!!! No complaints, no whining, only a few potty breaks and 1 longer stop for eating. What was funny is that we woke up a little after 6 and Ellie stayed awake the entire time until about 45 minutes or less from home.
