St. George/Mesquite Soccer Weekend

Over the first weekend in March Ethan's soccer team had a tournament in Mesquite.  We headed down early on Thursday with his first game that evening @ 10:00 pacific time.  Over the last 4 months Ethan's team has not had the opportunity to play on a regular field, not even an indoor field so we wondered how the tournament would turn out.
The first two teams were from the south and it was obvious that they have been playing soccer throughout the winter, not just training.  Ethan's team were defeated by quite a bit the first two games, and then killed the last team they played.  The first two teams looked a lot bigger than the boys on our team.  Ethan's team is playing up an age bracket so most teams have 14 going on 15 year-olds.
Despite getting whooped two out of three games and being quite sore from all the running (not use to that), the boys still had a blast.

The first two games were played on the turf at the Mesquite Soccer Complex.

The games were in Mesquite, but we stayed in St. George and drove back and forth.
The weather was GORGEOUS this weekend.  We loved soaking in the sun each day.

The 3rd game was played on a soccer field next to an elementary school.  We think it was the only field with dead grass in the area (we joked it was the field for the losers, but it turned out that one of the championship games was played on this field).

Saturday afternoon we took some time to walk around St. George and ran into the Oscar Mayer Weiner-mobile.

All the times we have visited this town we never knew about the cute little carousel in the park.  Ellie took a spin on it, accompanied by dad.

Our kids +1
One of Ethan's teammates, Gabe, needed a host family for the weekend so we took him in.  The boys had a blast hanging out over the weekend.  We appreciated having a friend for Ethan to run around the hotel with, swim and have fun with.  Ellie loved tagging along with the boys.

We all enjoyed exploring the red rocks above town.

A-Hoy! Pirates!!

"ARgh" little girl has come a long ways when it comes to performing.  Last year after watching the school play she decided she wanted to do that some time.  This year when the school play was announced she was so excited to join in the fun and be a part of it.  We are so proud of this little girl who use to be so scared to get in front of people that she'd get sick days before events, but over the years has been able to overcome those fears and look at her now.

She played the part of one of the pirates on the ship.  The play was a story about a stowaway who wanted to become a pirate.  She did an amazing job singing and dancing her way through the musical.

Part of the fun was attending the rehearsals every day after school with her friends.
Cute little Pirates!

Random

SO. . . . . .MUCH. . . . . SNOW . . . . this year.
We live on a wide street so after the snow plow has come through a few times we can be blocked in to our driveway and our mailbox becomes unreachable through the piled snow.  We ended up make a little drive through area for our mail-lady so we could get our mail.

Ethan has been in need of some pants and jeans.  One Saturday it was just him and me taking off to do some shopping.  We had a fun afternoon down at Station Park outdoor mall and the weather on the other side of the mountain was amazing!   There are very few times where I can take Ethan shopping and he actually comes willingly.  I loved having this time with this guy who is growing up way to fast for this momma.

What will you look like when you're 100 years?
This girl would still be cute as can be.
(celebrating 100 days of school)

Ellie's cute friend Jessi had a birthday pool party.  Ellie had a blast celebrating with her.

Ellie was so happy to celebrate Jessi's baptism day with her as well.

The annual Woodruff Dance performance.  This year's theme was Michael Jackson.  The 2nd Grade's song was "I want you back" from Jackson 5.
Elisabeth has come such a long way since the first dance performance she participated in.  She was nervous, but there were no tears and she stayed in her spot, smiled the whole time and did an amazing job on her dance performance.
We are so proud of our little dancer girl.

Blacksmith Fork Canyon in February

deceptively nice looking outside, kids complained of being cold for the last half of the walk.  30 degrees with a cold wind

Curls for church today

Another spring tease with the weather.

Kelly took the snowmobile out with some friends.  It was a blizzardy (I don't think that's a word) day!
