He was not our first dog as a family but he was the first dog we had who joined our family as a puppy. He was the best dog and this is no exaggeration. Cooper loved his family and all he wanted was to be with us. He especially loved Kelly and none of us will deny that Kelly was the favorite and probably Cooper was the favorite. It was a classic grown boy and his dog story.
But it all started with us getting a family dog for the kids. Cooper came to us in June 2017.
As he grew up and learned all the things he became one of the most mellow, obedient, labradors a person could ask for. We always said that he would have been the perfect service dog and probably could have been even better and smarter had his owners (us) known more about training such a great dog.
Cooper enjoyed morning and night walks
Going to Coop's Loop (yep, this place was named (by us) after him) any time of year
Going for rides in the Razr
-rides in the car
-rides in the pickup
Going into any body of water and fetching sticks
Going to the beach and digging in sand
Sitting on the couch
Sleeping on our bed
Giving wet dog kisses to all
EATING his food and everyone else's food
Meeting new people
Cooper could sit, lay down, roll over, play dead when we said "BANG"
We could put a treat on his nose and tell him to wait and he would not move an inch until we told him "Okay". Sometimes we would do it and leave him, forget, and then realize he was still waiting to be told okay. This also happened when feeding him his food.
He never jumped on people. He may come running at you full speed, but he would either move to the side or stop. You just had to stand still because you wouldn't know which side he would turn to.
Cooper could be out in the front yard and stay put even when people or dogs would walk by. BUT, if someone acknowledged him and talked to him he would go right to them. He assumed everyone loved him as much as we did.
Cooper could go for walks through the neighborhood and not be on a leash (he was best with Kelly) and we could take him on trails with out a leash and he would leave people alone.
Until he was hurting and sick (before we knew he was sick) he was the best running partner. I loved taking him on trail runs and he loved it too.
