This fall I decided to try the marathon in my backyard, Top of Utah full marathon. I knew going into it that the last 6 miles would be more difficult than the typical last 10K of a marathon so I think I set myself up for misery. During the race I felt strong up until the mile 19. In fact I was pretty excited at the halfway point because my pace was just about matching my best half marathon pace. Knowing I would most likely lose it in the last few miles I just went with it. The thing about this course is that the first half is all downhill and the last half is flat with some tiny inclines. All in all, I had a decent time running this course for the first time, just not a PR like I'd hoped and although I swore to never run another marathon during those last few miles, I feel it would only be fair to to try it again next fall.
