Both kids played soccer this spring, but for some reason I only took pictures of Elisabeth. I think it's easier on the smaller field and with a slower moving game :-)
Ethan continued to play on the Stingerz. It was a tough season for the team, but Ethan still made a lot of progress and for playing up an age group he did a great job holding his own. His aggressiveness improved so much.
This was Elisabeth's first time playing organized soccer. Her first game went just as expected - before the start of the game I went out with her on the field to do the warm-up exercises. Once the game started she refused to go out onto the field on account of "everyone is watching". So, she sat on the sidelines, crying, watching her team. After halftime, and after a lot of bribery (because we knew once she got over the initial going out on the field she would have fun), we got her to go out on the field to play with her little friend. As predicted, once she started playing -- well running around with the other girls chasing the ball -- she enjoyed herself and was no longer scared to play.
During Ellie's first season playing soccer we learned some differences between boys' soccer and girls' soccer.
#1 TEAM NAMES: Ellie's team was self named "The Rainbow Cheetahs"
We had to laugh when they played "The Unicorns"
#2 LESS PRESSURE
In comparison to Ethan's games, our words of encouragement were different:
For Ethan - "Get in there! Be aggressive!"
For Ellie - "Just stand back from the crowd and when the ball comes out kick it!"
#3 SOCCER IS VERY SOCIAL - Many times the girls would be caught up talking on the field rather than going after the ball.
