It's becoming a tradition

In June I participated in my third Wasatch back Ragnar Relay.  This race has become HUGE and there are several of the Ragnar Relays all over the country.  Wasatch Back was the first Ragnar Relay.  When we first moved to Utah I remember my principal telling me about this relay race that lasts over 24 hours and that it was a big party, you sleep under the stars yada yada.  Well as it got to be more and more popular, three years ago we tried it out.

This year I wasn't planning on running, but at the Ogden Marathon packet pickup we ran into Kelly's Uncle and next thing I knew I was on a team.  This time I was able to experience van 1, which did indeed allow for a little bit more sleep (maybe 2 hours rather than an accumulated hour).  It also gave me the opportunity to see the other parts of the 200 mile route.  The team I was on was named Chain Gang Pain Gain.  I knew two of the 11 other runners.  It was a fun team to run with and I appreciated their "do your best, but have fun" attitude as well as those who are as competitive as I am and had fun counting "road kill".

5:45 start time

The beginning of my first leg (toughest leg of my three) up Avon Pass.  This leg was gorgeous and extremely scenic making up for the dust.   It was a good run.  I ended up losing my team (or they lost me) and waited at the top for 20+ minutes.  I was too shy to ask anyone for water, ugh.

Van 1 meets up with Van 2 at Snowbasin

Van 1 finished their 3rd leg

Chain Gang Pain Gain completed the race.

Next year is the 10th anniversary of the Wasatch Back - Ragnar.  Kelly and I have already committed to run on a team.
