Heading to Boise
Driving across southern Idaho is not the most scenic drive. A lot of people describe it as ugly and desolate. I agree, it is kind of ugly ---dry, brown, dessert, sage brush. But for some reason, there's a certain comfort in looking at that dry brown dessert and the mountains in the far distance. It's somewhat of a comforting feeling like I'm going home. I'm not sure if what I'm trying to describe is nostalgia or what. It's a peaceful, comforting feeling. My mind tends to always wonder to childhood and now I my heart hurts a little extra as I always think of my mom and have an empty, hollow feeling that we do not get to stop to see her during our trip.
After our Illinois trip we headed up to Boise for a Half Marathon Kelly and I signed up for, the Freakin' Fast Half. We ran this last year and loved it so when the price was right 6-8 months ago we signed right up.
Kelly hadn't even been training for this and was still freakin fast. I ran slower than last year, but all of the fast people must have stayed home because I ended up getting 2nd place female overall, What!?!
No cash prize but I did get a fun bag with a few goodies. The race director forgot the ribbons at home, but a month later it came in the mail. I'm pretty sure the stamp to mail it cost more than the ribbon.
A visit to the Town Square and this girl just wanted to try these out one time.
The Monday after our trip to Boise we had a fun time celebrating Pioneer Day. We enjoyed the annual Pioneer Day parade to gather a stash of candy.
This little girl continues to have issues with loud noises. Especially sirens.
That night we found a place to watch the city fireworks. We love collecting some snacks and gathering a few games to entertain ourselves while we wait for dark.
When we got home, the neighborhood firework display was still going off so we enjoyed another show.
Elisabeth had a consultation appointment at Primary Children's Hospital for her ear. Afterward dad worked in the SLC office while the kids and I went a played at the Living Planet Aquarium.
We made sure to take a picture with all of the animal statues.
True, they are only statues but regardless she loves them!!
Love these two kids more than anything. Such a fun afternoon.
Morning canyon run animal sighting. We were cautious to keep our distance and luckily got the camera out before they got too far out of our sight. Both mama and baby were on the road when we came around a corner before heading off into the foliage.
Saying good night to another summer day in July
Fun Trail hike/run with the Sole Sisters. This outing took us to the tallest peak in Cache County National Forest.
Beautiful Tony Grove Lake was our starting point.
When we arrived we were surprised to see a small forest fire that must have just started. We talked to someone who sent another person down the canyon to report it since none of us had cell coverage.
Almost to the peak

Late summer mountain wildflowers
Can barely see it but we had a great view of this special helicopter (can't remember the name) that was in the valley for the week.
Beautiful view
still a trace of snow at the end of July
