Every Sunday Kelly and I take the dog for a longer than usual morning walk. One morning we headed out on our usual route and noticed a bunch of McDonald's trash in the road. We didn't walk right past it but it was enough for us to take note. As we returned to our house we noticed that a police officer was meticulously going through the McDonald's trash. We joked that it must be slow for the cops and maybe he was going through looking for receipts to catch whoever it was that littered. We walked by him and as we got closer to the house one of the neighbors from around the corner was walking toward us. Kelly said hello and then he said "Sorry about your car" We weren't sure what he was talking about and then he proceeded to tell us that several cars around the neighborhood had their windshields and other windows broken. We then headed over to Ethan's car to take a look.
It turned out that whoever was responsible must have come through the neighborhood to specifically vandalize cars. They also targeted older cars that most likely didn't have alarms. Ethan's car had footprints and the large rock that must have been used was on the side of the road. From the prints it looked as though they were standing on the hood pounding on the windshield. Before we saw the car and were on our walk Kelly asked me if I had heard the fireworks going off around 2 am. I sleep through everything and had not. We realized the banging on the windshields must have been what we heard because based on the receipts and cameras at McDonalds that put the suspects in the neighborhood around that time. One of our neighbors had heard what he thought was thunder and another neighbor heard it and even went to look out the window but did not see anything. There was lots of evidence with cameras and receipts and all but as I type this about a month later we still have not heard that anyone was caught. That same weekend there were similar cased reported around the valley in other towns as well. The crazy thing is that Ethan's car is normally not parked in the street.
Just in our neighborhood there were a total of 5-6 cars that were hit and a newly built house had a couple of windows busted out. What's frustrating is that the (most likely) kids that did this got away with it and have no consequences. grrrrr.
