Oregon Coast oh how we love you!
In July the kids and I flew over to Portland to meet up with my sis and her family. They moved to Vancouver, Washington so they are close to the airport, but not as close to the coast. We ended up renting a house on the lake in Lincoln City and spent few days there. We had so much fun.
First up was the road trip to Lincoln City. On the way we stopped outside of McMinnville at a local farmers market. We got some local yummy produce, used the facilities, and of course took some pictures.
We couldn't wait to get to the beach when we arrived. The first day there was SOOO cold. So we took a million steps down to the beach to watch the sunset.
We were startled and impressed at the deer who were not afraid of us at all.
Afterward we headed back to the house to where some of us warmed up in the hot tub that was out on the deck.
The next morning we all loaded up super early to head to the Neskowin Ghost Forest. We had to go early for the perfect photos.
It was a really cool beach, and the time of day was perfect. We saw lots of star fish, shells and little fish that hung out in the pools.
Love that my sister in law is a photographer and is always ready for any kind of photo.
Despite getting up before the sun, the kids were all smiles, well until we all started to get hungry.

After exploring the ghost forest we headed into town to the local bakery, My Petite Sweet, for some yummy cinnamon rolls and scones.
A statue of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln City is in Lincoln County and was named after Abraham Lincoln.
The house we rented sat right on Devil's Lake. It had it's own private dock for the lake, a fire pit, hot tub on the deck overlooking the lake. It was fabulous lodging!
During our stay we rented two canoes and canoed around Devil's Lake. The day we did this was a beautiful sunny day, but it was also a very windy day. Ethan, Samuel, Ellie and I were in one canoe and then Tricia, Shauntay, Damion, and Sophia were in the other. It was fun to do this outing with Ethan. His little mannerisms similar to his dad came out. His young man, responsible for others, I'm "the man" kind of personality seemed to come out in a way that made me so proud of him. Even when he was getting annoyed with me because according to him he was doing all of the work (LOL).
We also got to visit Devil's punch bowl.
It was low tide so we got to go down into the punch bowl which was way cool as this was the first time I had ever experienced it from this view.
It was SO windy down inside the bowl. It was hard to hear anything!

Cool looking, but
Yuck!
We saw many deer near the house where we stayed. This doe and her two fawn we along the busy road during a morning run. I was so worried that they were going to get hit especially because they were on a sharp corner.

As we were driving along the coast headed to Newport and Yaquina Lighthouse someone in the car said they thought they saw a whale in the ocean. We stopped at a scenic outlook to take a gander.
Sure enough, out there off the coast was a whale spouting and jumping. It was super cool to watch and be able to see. I think several years ago before the kids, we had spent good money to go out on a boat near here to see whales and saw nothing so I was super stoked to see a whale on the Oregon Coast at last.
Next stop, Yaquina Lighthouse.
Apparently during this trip Ethan was working on his male model poses.
At the lighthouse we headed down the hill to the shore where we were able to see the sea lions and seals that hung out along the shore. Ellie LOVED it. She insisted that there was one who was caught in a net or something. We watched forever to try to figure out if he was caught. Finally we told her that after heading in to Newport we would stop back here and check on the sea lion to be sure it was okay and not in the same spot.
We ate dinner in Newport at a restaurant along the historic Bayfront. Right outside the restaurant were a bunch of sea lions that we got to be entertained by while eating.
Ethan had been to Newport when he was about 3 years old, but this was Ellie's first trip.
On our way back to the house after our time in Newport we did head back to Yaquina Lighthouse to check on the sea lion. As far as we could see it was gone and not stuck. We also got a nice sunset view and Shauntay captured some beautiful pictures of the lighthouse.
Another view of Devil's Lake early morning.
Ethan was in the middle of summer cross country running and was suppose to be running while we were away. I managed to get him to join me for a run one morning. We had fun exploring some trails near the house. We even got lost for a bit, even though we knew the main roads were close by and we did have cell reception.
